Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers report they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then located many other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
A high-ranking representative commented the incident made him without words and had to be addressed quickly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
